7TH BATT Partners with Mobile County Public Schools to Support JROTC STEM Leadership Academy

7TH BATT is proud to announce its partnership with Mobile County Public Schools to sponsor ten 9th and 10th grade Midshipmen participating in the JROTC STEM Leadership Academy.

The STEM Leadership Academy provides a week-long residential camp that exposes and engages a unique population of Mobile high school students in STEM content, skills, and fields of study. It gives opportunities to see STEM content and technology in action as they interact with scientists and engineers designing and innovating solutions to area industry and community problems.

Participants observe first-hand the broad range of STEM-dependent jobs in Mobile and create, test, and improve their own solutions to a STEM-focused engineering design challenge. The Academy ultimately helps groom these already successful students into future military officers and regional STEM workforce contributors.

The STEM Education Team, led by Jamey Duke, President of StemWorksII, LLC, and Susan Pruet, Ph.D, designs and coordinates a sequence of engaging hands-on lab experiences. Teams compete in design challenges, participate in interactive tours and meet area industry mentors who showcase Mobile STEM career opportunities. They also meet with successful regional leaders who share their military, civic, and industry career stories.

“Thank you for supporting our Navy Program here in Mobile…it is one of our best and I am proud of the work they do every day!”, said LTC (Ret.) Robert Barrow, Director of Army Instruction JROTC Program.

The funds will help ensure this amazing opportunity remains accessible to ALL Mobile area students and 7TH BATT is proud to support as it's fundamental to the root of its existence. It's with gratitude that 7TH BATT is able to help pay it forward by lifting up other future leaders in underserved communities!
